Welcome to the violin and viola studio of Leslie Silverfine! I have been teaching and performing in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore area since 1987. I divide my time equally between teaching and performing. My teaching style is a traditional one, incorporating methods established as successful in producing serious violinists and violists. These are methods that have been passed down to me from some of the great violinists of our time, teachers of mine, most notably Joseph Silverstein and Rafael Druian.
I am on the faculty of the Levine School of Music. My teaching focus for the past 30 years has been on children ages 5 to 18 but I have also successfully taught many adults of all ages. I especially enjoy introducing young children to the joys of chamber music at local summer music camps, including the Levine School of Music, which I have done for the past 16 summers, as well as at a similar program at the National Philharmonic Summer String Institute for almost as many years.
I encourage my students to participate in school, county and the many fine youth orchestras to further enrich their studies and to enjoy a variety of performance experiences. My students have participated in the All State Orchestra, Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra, All County and County Honors Orchestras, the County and State Solo Festivals, the Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra, the College Park Youth Orchestra, the Interlochen Violin Institute, the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, the Levine Summer String Camps, the National Philharmonic String Institute, Stewart's Stellar Strings Camp and many other programs and festivals.
I perform with many local professional orchestras, such as the National Philharmonic, Opera Lafayette and Bach Sinfonia in venues that include the Kennedy Center, The Music Center at Strathmore and the National Cathedral, among many others.
